Bird with Broken Wings

from A Year Without Light by Armand Tanzarian

/

lyrics

All the birds fly over your head, all the dreams we’ve left unsaid,
The birds in the books you read, are forever too far ahead.
You were always telling me when your dreams led to where you can’t bear,
“But I am destined to be down here you said, in my nest under God-knows-where.”

The world would open as we all grow,
Our dreams would bloom like seeds we sow.
The sky is not the only world,
You found other ways to grow.

Your arms would open though you wings did not,
You found other ways to fly,
“I’ll be alright,” You turned to me to say,
“For I will always be,
A bird with broken wings.”
